Finding an Overseas Job from Japan: Agencies, CVs & Visa Sponsors

Most overseas jobs open to people in Japan come through three routes: a licensed recruitment agency, a direct application or recruiter approach (often via LinkedIn), or an employer that sponsors your work visa. In each of the five destinations checked for this guide (the UK, Australia, Canada, Singapore and the US), the employer must take the first formal step, such as a sponsor certificate, a nomination, a labour market assessment, a pass application or a petition, so verifying the employer and the agency matters as much as the CV.12345 This guide covers the search step by step and the official checks that separate real offers from risky ones.

The Cross-Border Hiring Landscape for Japan Residents

Section titled “The Cross-Border Hiring Landscape for Japan Residents”

Searching from Japan usually means applying for a local-hire role (Genchi Saiyo 現地採用), where a foreign employer hires you directly on its local terms. That differs from an intra-company posting (Chuzai 駐在), where your Japanese employer sends you abroad; that model is covered in the separate guide comparing expat assignments with local hire.

Three Routes: Agencies, Direct Applications, Employer Sponsorship

Section titled “Three Routes: Agencies, Direct Applications, Employer Sponsorship”

Agencies: Japanese law treats mediating employment between an employer and a job seeker as placement (Shokugyo Shokai 職業紹介, Employment Security Act Article 4), and covers cross-border placement when part of it takes place in Japan.67

Direct applications: you apply on a careers page, answer a recruiter or use your network. The agency licence rules below do not cover an employer recruiting directly, so the employer checks later in this guide matter.

Employer sponsorship runs through both routes: without work rights in the destination, an offer only works if the employer can and will sponsor you.

Work Rights First: Who Can Be Hired from Abroad

Section titled “Work Rights First: Who Can Be Hired from Abroad”

Check whether you already have the right to work before you search. Holders of another citizenship or residence elsewhere may not need sponsorship; Working Holiday, post-study work and points-based visas are covered in their own guides.

Where you do need a sponsor, hiring is employer-driven and tied to each destination’s criteria (skill level, occupation lists, salary floors), covered in the skilled migration and points-based visas guide. As a planning point, not a rule, skills or languages that are hard to source locally give an employer a reason to sponsor.

Recruitment Agencies in Japan: Licences, Fees and Overseas Placement

Section titled “Recruitment Agencies in Japan: Licences, Fees and Overseas Placement”

Japanese law answers three questions about any agency: is it licensed, does its licence cover your destination, and may it charge you anything.

The MHLW Licence for Fee-Charging Placement (Employment Security Act)

Section titled “The MHLW Licence for Fee-Charging Placement (Employment Security Act)”

Anyone who runs a fee-charging placement business (Yuryo Shokugyo Shokai Jigyo 有料職業紹介事業) must obtain a licence from the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare (Employment Security Act, Shokugyo Antei Ho 職業安定法, Article 30(1)).6 Under the MHLW operating manual, a licence number has three parts: a two-digit prefecture number, the symbol “ユ” for fee-charging (or “ム” for free placement), and a six-digit serial, for example “01-ユ-300005” (01 being Hokkaido).7 All five licences in the table below begin with “13-ユ-”, the Tokyo prefecture number, and status can be checked at a Prefectural Labour Bureau or online.78

Overseas Placement Rules: Notified Destination Countries

Section titled “Overseas Placement Rules: Notified Destination Countries”

A licensed agency must notify MHLW of its scope of business (取扱職種の範囲等), and for overseas placement (Kokugai ni wataru Shokugyo Shokai 国外にわたる職業紹介) that filing lists the destination countries by their MOFA names (Article 32-12(1)).67 The licence criteria in the MHLW manual then require the agency to:7

  • place job seekers only in countries within its notified scope;
  • comply with Japanese immigration law and the destination country’s laws;
  • not lend travel costs to job seekers, or place those to whom the employer has lent them;
  • not use a foreign partner agency (Toritsugi Kikan 取次機関) that is unauthorised locally or that takes deposits, holds job seekers’ money or property, or imposes penalty (違約金) contracts.

To be licensed for overseas placement, an agency must file proof that its activity is permitted in the destination country or, where it works through a partner agency, the partner’s local authorisation and their division-of-work contract.7

Ask which entity is placing you. On the MHLW register (data as of 1 October 2026), some agencies with global networks list only Japan as their placement region, so an overseas role may be handled by a foreign affiliate licensed abroad rather than by the Japanese office you met.89

Can an Agency Charge You? The Job-Seeker Fee Rule

Section titled “Can an Agency Charge You? The Job-Seeker Fee Rule”

A licensed agency may not take any fee from job seekers (Article 32-3(2)), and its fees from employers must follow either ministerial caps or a fee table notified in advance (Article 32-3(1)).6 The only exceptions are in Enforcement Regulation Article 20(2): performers and models, and scientific or technical specialists, managers and highly skilled workers whose wage in the job exceeds the amount set by the Minister.10 The MHLW manual sets that amount at an annual wage over ¥7,000,000, and the fee is capped at 11% (10.3% for tax-exempt businesses) of wages paid within six months of starting.107

In practice, the employer pays the agency. A request for a “registration fee”, “visa fee” or “placement fee” from a job seeker is unlawful for a Japanese-licensed agency unless the narrow ¥7 million-plus specialist exception applies and the fee appears in its notified fee table.610

How to Check an Agency on the MHLW Human Resources Services General Site

Section titled “How to Check an Agency on the MHLW Human Resources Services General Site”

The MHLW Human Resources Services General Site (Jinzai Service Sogo Site 人材サービス総合サイト, jinzai.hellowork.mhlw.go.jp) lets you search by company name or licence number without entering any personal data.11 Agencies must provide placement information (Article 32-16(3)), which the MHLW manual requires them to post on this site.67

An office’s detail page shows its licence date, notified occupations and regions (including overseas countries and conditions), fee table, refund scheme, yearly placements and early leavers (as of October 2026).8

Since 1 April 2025, agencies must post the average fee rate per permanent placement for their top five occupations by such placements in the previous year, calculated as total fees divided by total expected annual wages.71213 Occupations with 10 or fewer placements are excluded (as of October 2026), and these are fees charged to employers, not to you.712

Examples of Cross-Border Agencies Active in Japan (No Ranking)

Section titled “Examples of Cross-Border Agencies Active in Japan (No Ranking)”

The commercial firms below are examples only, listed alphabetically, with no ranking or recommendation. Licence data come from the MHLW register (as of 1 October 2026); descriptions come from each firm’s own pages.8

Firm (as registered with MHLW) MHLW licence Placement regions on the MHLW register Firm’s own published description
JAC Recruitment (株式会社ジェイエイシーリクルートメント) 13-ユ-010227 (granted 1 August 1997) Japan plus Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, India, UK, Germany and the US (California and New York only), with conditions8 Licence number and the same 10 overseas placement countries on its own site; offices in 11 overseas countries1415
Michael Page (マイケル・ペイジ・インターナショナル・ジャパン株式会社) 13-ユ-040405 (granted 1 June 2001) Japan, Singapore and India (Maharashtra only), with a condition that overseas placement concerns foreign nationals allowed to stay for work under Japan’s Immigration Control Act8 Licence number in its “about us” footer; services in 34 countries, 100+ offices16
Morgan McKinley (Morgan McKinley株式会社) 13-ユ-300567 (granted 1 May 2005) Japan only (no overseas countries notified)8 850+ staff in 10 countries9
Robert Walters (ロバート・ウォルターズ・ジャパン株式会社) 13-ユ-070385 (granted 1 June 2000) Japan plus about 30 countries, including China, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, Australia and New Zealand8 “A global network across 29 countries” (own document, June 2026)17
RGF (RGFタレントソリューションズ株式会社) 13-ユ-070352 (granted 1 October 2001) Japan plus Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, India, the US, Canada, Brazil, the UK, Russia, Australia and China, with conditions8 Licence number on its own site; lists Fullcast Holdings as shareholder18

A narrow register entry is not a criticism; it simply means you should read the conditions and ask which licence covers your placement.

RGF changed owner in 2026, according to company announcements. Recruit Holdings announced on 22 January 2026 the transfer of RGF International Recruitment Holdings (Hong Kong) and RGF Talent Solutions Japan to Fullcast Holdings, and Fullcast’s August 2026 earnings summary states it acquired both on 1 April 2026.192021 RGF’s own notice says the company name, offices and teams continue unchanged.22

Formatting Your Application: From Rirekisho to a Western CV

Section titled “Formatting Your Application: From Rirekisho to a Western CV”

What the Rirekisho and Shokumu Keirekisho Contain

Section titled “What the Rirekisho and Shokumu Keirekisho Contain”

The rirekisho (Rirekisho 履歴書) is a fixed-format form with a photo, personal details, chronological education and work history, qualifications and a motivation statement. In MHLW’s sample format (厚生労働省履歴書様式例) of 16 April 2021, sex became an optional free entry and four fields were removed: spouse, number of dependants, spouse support obligation and commuting time.2324 The earlier JIS sample was withdrawn after a 2020 request, and MHLW states its sample has no legal binding force.23

The career history document (Shokumu Keirekisho 職務経歴書) is a free-form account of your roles and achievements, and the better starting point for a Western CV.

Why Photos, Birth Dates and Marital Status Come Off

Section titled “Why Photos, Birth Dates and Marital Status Come Off”

The reason is employer-side law, not etiquette: anti-discrimination rules discourage employers from collecting personal details unrelated to the job; none of this binds you as an applicant.

Japan applies the same principle. MHLW’s fair-hiring guidance (Kosei na Saiyo Senko 公正な採用選考) lists 14 matters employers should not ask about or use, such as birthplace, family circumstances and religion.25 Employment Security Act Article 5-5 limits collection of job seekers’ personal information to what a stated purpose requires, and the related guideline bars items liable to cause social discrimination except where essential.626

In the US, EEOC guidance says inquiries about race, sex, national origin, age or religion may be used as evidence of intent to discriminate, and that employers should not ask for a photograph before an offer is made and accepted (as of October 2026).27 Federal age protection covers people aged 40 or older.28 Questions on marital status or children may violate Title VII if used to limit opportunities, though the information may be collected after an offer for insurance purposes.29

In the UK, the Equality Act 2010 lists nine protected characteristics, including age, marriage and civil partnership, race, religion or belief and sex (section 4).30 Section 60 bars an employer from asking about an applicant’s health before offering work, subject to listed exceptions.31

Conventions still differ: the EU’s official Europass CV tool suggests adding a professional photograph, so check your target market’s norm.32

Structure of an Achievement-Focused CV (1 to 2 Pages)

Section titled “Structure of an Achievement-Focused CV (1 to 2 Pages)”

Common practice, not law: many employers expect one to two pages (“resume” in the US, “CV” in the UK, Europe and Australia).

  • Header and summary: contact details, city and country, and two lines on your target role.
  • Experience, most recent first: quantified achievements (revenue, cost, time, scale) rather than duties.
  • Skills, education and languages: use destination-market terms.

Rirekisho vs. International CV: Side-by-Side Comparison

Section titled “Rirekisho vs. International CV: Side-by-Side Comparison”

The Japanese column rests on the MHLW sample; the international column reflects common practice and the US and UK guidance above, not universal law.23272930

Optimizing LinkedIn for International Recruiters

Section titled “Optimizing LinkedIn for International Recruiters”

LinkedIn is a commercial platform; the features below come only from its own help pages and change often (as of October 2026).

Location, Headline and “Open to Work” Settings

Section titled “Location, Headline and “Open to Work” Settings”

LinkedIn’s “Open to Work” feature offers three visibility options: “All LinkedIn Members” (including people at your current company, with a #OpenToWork photo frame), “Recruiters only” (people using LinkedIn Recruiter) and “Visible only to you”.33 You can also set preferred job titles, locations and start date, so list your target cities.33

How Recruiters Search: Keywords and Boolean Logic

Section titled “How Recruiters Search: Keywords and Boolean Logic”

Recruiters search by keyword, so use the exact titles and skill terms they type. LinkedIn’s help page says search supports quotation marks, the operators NOT, OR and AND in capitals, and parentheses, but not wildcards (as of October 2026).34 The same logic finds roles, for example "data engineer" AND (Singapore OR "Hong Kong").

Recruiter-only visibility is not a guarantee of secrecy. LinkedIn says it takes steps to hide your career interests from Recruiter users at your current company but “can’t guarantee complete privacy”.33 Treat unsolicited “high-pay overseas job” messages with suspicion, as SNS recruitment is the pattern in Japanese fraud warnings.3536

Acing Remote Cross-Border Interviews: Competency Questions and the STAR Method

Section titled “Acing Remote Cross-Border Interviews: Competency Questions and the STAR Method”

Typical Stages: Recruiter Screen, Technical or Case Round, Panel

Section titled “Typical Stages: Recruiter Screen, Technical or Case Round, Panel”

Overseas hiring usually runs in several video rounds: a recruiter screen, a technical test or case exercise, then a panel or hiring-manager interview; ask for the process at the outset.

Competency-Based Questions and the STAR Method

Section titled “Competency-Based Questions and the STAR Method”

Competency questions ask for evidence from your past work, such as “Tell me about a time you resolved a conflict in your team.” The UK Civil Service’s official Success Profiles guidance advises candidates to “consider using the STAR method”, which lets you “set the scene, show what and how you did and the overall outcome”.37 It lists nine behaviours, such as Making effective decisions and Working together.38

STAR is commonly expanded as Situation, Task, Action, Result: keep the situation short, focus on what you did, and end with a measurable outcome.

Japan Standard Time is UTC plus 9 hours and Japan does not observe daylight saving time.3940 Many destinations do change their clocks, so the gap to London, New York or Sydney shifts twice a year; confirm every slot in writing with both time zones.

Questions You May Be Asked About Visas and Notice Periods

Section titled “Questions You May Be Asked About Visas and Notice Periods”

Expect “Do you need sponsorship?” early, and answer honestly. A UK sponsor, for example, must assign a Certificate of Sponsorship before you can apply, which shapes your start date.1

On notice periods, know your baseline. Under Civil Code Article 627(1), employment with no fixed term ends two weeks after either party requests termination.41 Contracts, work rules and fixed-term contracts may differ, so check your own terms.

Verifying Visa Sponsorship and Spotting Fake Overseas Job Offers

Section titled “Verifying Visa Sponsorship and Spotting Fake Overseas Job Offers”

The Employer Starts the Process: General Principles

Section titled “The Employer Starts the Process: General Principles”

Sponsorship is the employer’s legal role, and paying for a job is the clearest warning sign. Canada’s immigration department says “you shouldn’t have to pay for a job offer” and warns about salaries that seem “too high to be real”.4243

Each destination has its own official check and rule on charging workers (as of October 2026).

Destination What the employer needs Official check Rule on charging the worker
UK Sponsor licence and a Certificate of Sponsorship1 GOV.UK “Register of licensed sponsors: workers” (CSV)44 CoS fee, sponsor licence fee and Immigration Skills Charge must not be recouped from the worker14546
Australia Employer sponsorship for the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482)2 Home Affairs pages; employer existence via ABN Lookup or ASIC4748 Asking for, receiving, offering or providing a benefit for sponsorship is unlawful (Migration Act ss 245AR, 245AS)4950
Canada LMIA from ESDC unless exempt351 ESDC and IRCC pages; corporate registries52 Employer must not recover LMIA or recruitment fees (IRPR 209.2, 209.3)3
Singapore Employment Pass submitted by employer or its employment agent4 MOM Employment Pass pages (the role should have been advertised on MyCareersFuture for 14 days unless exempt)53 MOM: collecting employment kickbacks is an offence54
US H-1B registration and petition by the employer555 USCIS H-1B pages USD 100,000 payment proclamation under litigation (see below)55657

United Kingdom: UKVI’s downloadable register of licensed sponsors is updated several times a week (as of October 2026), but it confirms a licence, not that the employer will sponsor you.44 Sponsors must not recoup the CoS fee or sponsor licence fee (with related admin costs) from workers, for Skilled Worker CoS assigned from 31 December 2024 and other listed routes from 9 April 2025, and must not pass on any of the Immigration Skills Charge.14546

Australia: under Migration Act section 245AR it is unlawful to ask for or receive a benefit in return for a sponsorship-related event, with an offence penalty of up to 2 years’ imprisonment or 360 penalty units or both, and a civil penalty of 240 penalty units; a reasonable payment for a professional service is excepted.49 Section 245AS imposes a civil penalty for offering or providing such a benefit, so a worker who pays for sponsorship can also contravene the law.49 Home Affairs states that an employer may not ask you to repay sponsorship, nomination or recruitment costs, and that keeping your passport as a condition of employment is a crime.50

Canada: employers of workers on LMIA-based permits must not charge or recover the LMIA processing fee or any recruitment fees, directly or through a recruiter (IRPR 209.3(1)(a)(xv) to (xvi)); for employer-specific LMIA-exempt permits the same applies to the employer compliance fee and recruitment fees (209.2(1)(a)(ix) to (x)).3 Your own work permit and visa fees are excepted, and ESDC states that breaching the recruitment-fee condition leads to a negative LMIA decision.351

Singapore: before an Employment Pass application, the employer must advertise the job on MyCareersFuture for at least 14 consecutive days and should not make an offer meanwhile (as of October 2026).5853 Exemptions include firms with fewer than 10 employees, fixed monthly salaries of S$22,500 or more, roles of one month or less and intra-corporate transferees.53 MOM states that collecting employment kickbacks is an offence under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act.54

United States: H-1B cap registration is submitted by the employer, and under a rule effective 27 February 2026 any selection is weighted by the offered wage level, applied for the FY2027 season.5955 Proclamation 10973 of 19 September 2025 requires a USD 100,000 payment with certain new H-1B petitions filed from 21 September 2025, mainly for beneficiaries outside the US without a valid H-1B visa; a proclamation of 18 September 2026 extends it to 21 September 2027.557 USCIS states that a District of Massachusetts order of 8 June 2026 vacated the guidance implementing the payment, that the First Circuit denied a stay on 24 July 2026, and that DHS will comply but “still plans to collect the payment” if the order is lifted (as of October 2026).556

What the US position means for you. The payment is neither clearly in force nor abolished, and an employer may still factor it into hiring from abroad, so check the USCIS H-1B page before relying on any statement about it.556

Red Flags from the Japan Side: MOFA Warnings on “High-Pay Overseas Work”

Section titled “Red Flags from the Japan Side: MOFA Warnings on “High-Pay Overseas Work””

MOFA has issued a series of warnings on its Overseas Safety website (Kaigai Anzen Homepage 海外安全ホームページ), most recently on 16 December 2025 and 1 May 2026, about overseas “dark part-time jobs” (Yami Baito 闇バイト).356061 Criminal groups recruit via SNS with phrases such as “short-term, high income” or “very easy work”, and cases are concentrated in Southeast Asia (as of October 2026).3560 MOFA stresses that, abroad as in Japan, no job pays a large sum in a short time, and that recruits can be punished locally or in Japan even if they say they did not know.3560

The danger is both confinement and criminal liability. MOFA reports that recruits have had passports and phones taken, been confined and threatened, and been used in fraud or drug smuggling, which some countries punish with death or life imprisonment.3560 A National Police Agency leaflet (20 February 2025) describes people taken via Thailand into Myanmar to work in guarded fraud buildings, and cases in Cambodia, China and Vietnam.36

Warning signs include pay out of line with the work, recruitment through SNS or online acquaintances, and travel “paid for you”.356036 MOFA and the NPA point to the police consultation line #9110, and MOFA adds that Japanese embassies and consulates can be contacted abroad.3536

What to Request in Writing Before You Resign

Section titled “What to Request in Writing Before You Resign”

Get a signed offer before you hand in notice; Canada’s high-wage LMIA stream, for example, requires the employer to provide a completed and signed employment agreement to each foreign worker on or before the first day of work.51 Ask for:

  • the legal employer entity, the visa type, and who pays which costs;
  • a start date conditional on visa approval;
  • salary, currency, probation, notice terms and any clawback clauses.

Then confirm the employer exists on an official registry: UK Companies House (which does not verify filed information), Singapore ACRA Bizfile basic search, or Australia’s ABN Lookup and ASIC registers, all free (as of October 2026).62634748 In Canada use Corporations Canada for federal corporations; in the US, the relevant state’s business registry.5264

Negotiating Relocation Packages: Flights, Initial Housing and Signing Bonuses

Section titled “Negotiating Relocation Packages: Flights, Initial Housing and Signing Bonuses”

Relocation support for local hires varies widely (nothing here reflects market data). Ask about flights, temporary housing, shipping of household goods (see the guide to international moving from Japan), visa and family-visa costs, a signing bonus and health cover from day one.

Read any clause requiring repayment of relocation money if you leave early. Some costs cannot lawfully be clawed back at all, such as the UK sponsorship costs, Australian sponsorship, nomination or recruitment costs, and Canadian LMIA or recruitment fees described above.14546503

The destination decides how relocation payments are taxed; Japanese tax residency is covered in the separate tax residency guide.

Salary in Context: Social Security and Pension Contributions

Section titled “Salary in Context: Social Security and Pension Contributions”

A local hire normally moves you into the destination’s social security system. Compare net pay, and see the separate guide to bilateral social security agreements for how Japan’s agreements apply.

Step-by-Step Job Search Timeline: From Japan to Your First Day Abroad

Section titled “Step-by-Step Job Search Timeline: From Japan to Your First Day Abroad”

Build the timeline backwards from visa approval, not from the offer; employer-side steps such as Singapore’s 14-day advertisement or the US H-1B registration window add weeks (as of October 2026).5355

Step Timing Actions
1 T-12 to T-6 months Confirm your work-rights route; build your CV and LinkedIn profile; check agencies on the MHLW register for your destination8
2 T-6 to T-3 months Apply, network and interview; prepare STAR stories
3 Offer stage Check the employer on the sponsor register and company registry; get a signed offer; pay no fees4462
4 Visa approval Resign only once the visa is approved; observe your notice period (Civil Code Article 627 baseline)41
5 T-1 month Japan exit procedures: moving-out notification (Tenshutsu-todoke 転出届), inhabitant tax timing, health insurance end date, pension options, tax residency
6 Arrival Register as the destination requires; Japanese nationals staying 3 months or more file an Overseas Residence Registration (Zairyu Todoke 在留届)6566

Exit procedures have their own guides in the Japan exit procedures category. Japanese nationals file the Overseas Residence Registration with the consulate under Passport Act Article 16, without delay under its Enforcement Regulation; shorter stays use Tabireg (たびレジ).6566

Japanese Citizens vs. Foreign Residents: Critical Distinctions

Section titled “Japanese Citizens vs. Foreign Residents: Critical Distinctions”
Issue Japanese citizens Foreign residents in Japan
Status while job-hunting No immigration risk in Japan Status can be revoked after 3 months without the permitted activity unless there is a justifiable reason6768
Contract changes No notification Many work statuses must notify ISA within 14 days6769
Existing work rights abroad Via Japanese nationality schemes (for example Working Holiday) May hold another citizenship or residence elsewhere
International organisations (JPO) Eligible if criteria met Not eligible (Japanese nationality required)70
Employment insurance basic allowance Requires Hello Work registration and readiness to start work; see text71 Same rule

Foreign residents who quit to job-hunt carry a status risk. Under Immigration Control Act Article 22-4(1)(vi), a work-status holder who goes 3 months or more without carrying out the activity of that status (6 months for Highly Skilled Professional (ii)) may have the status revoked unless there is a justifiable reason.6768 ISA gives active job hunting after leaving a job as an example of a justifiable reason but decides case by case, and job hunting for work abroad is not listed.72

Notify ISA within 14 days of contract changes. Holders of statuses such as Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services or Skilled Labor must report the end of an employment contract, or a new one, within 14 days (Article 19-16).6769 Re-entry permits and Permanent Resident status are covered in the guide on departure rules for Japanese citizens and foreign residents.

Japanese nationals have one extra route: international organisations. The 2026 round of MOFA’s Junior Professional Officer (JPO) programme, per its International Recruitment Centre listing, required Japanese nationality, age 35 or under, a relevant master’s degree, at least two years of relevant work experience and working English.70 That round closed in March 2026, and criteria may change (as of October 2026).70

Employment insurance generally does not bridge a move abroad: the basic allowance (Kihon Teate 基本手当) requires registering at Hello Work with the will and ability to start work at any time, and MHLW lists people who have already found their next job among those who in principle cannot receive it.7173 Someone who has already secured a job abroad is therefore generally not eligible; check your own case with Hello Work.

Foreign nationals considering the pension lump-sum withdrawal should first read the separate guide on it, as it cancels the covered period.

Common Pitfalls & Regulatory Compliance Risks

Section titled “Common Pitfalls & Regulatory Compliance Risks”
  • Paying for a job or sponsorship. Fix: refuse; Japanese-licensed agencies may not charge job seekers outside a narrow exception, and every destination above restricts charging workers.610149354
  • Skipping the agency check. Fix: confirm the licence, notified countries and conditions on the MHLW site, and ask which entity will place you.78
  • Resigning before the visa is approved. Fix: resign only after approval, with a signed offer in hand.
  • Trusting an employer that cannot sponsor. Fix: check the official register; a licence is not a promise to sponsor.44
  • Answering SNS “high-pay overseas job” offers. Fix: refuse, and call #9110 if in doubt.3536
  • Foreign residents letting 3 months pass without activity. Fix: plan the gap and file the 14-day notification.677269
  • Ignoring clawback terms or the H-1B payment uncertainty. Fix: read repayment terms and check USCIS before relying on any answer.1556
